About Us
At Zemble, we believe that technology should empower customer-facing staff to build better relationships, not force them to push paper ‘digitally’. By helping highly regulated organizations to manage business processes involving complex stakeholder networks, workflows, and materials (think claims, complaints etc) we’re setting a new standard for secure and accessible collaboration.
With a focus on insurance-related businesses but big plans to expand into other verticals, our technology delivers digital experiences for knowledge workers, customers, and stakeholders in a human-centered, rather than solely automation-centered, way. Our technology impacts all kinds of users from frontline staff to regulatory workers to vulnerable customers experiencing disabilities and loss. With that in mind simplicity and accessibility are at the core of everything we do.
Engineering @ Zemble
Engineering is a core part of who we are and we work hard to get our fundamentals right across the business. You will be working on a greenfield build, implementing modern and interactive engineering practices to support new product and growth goals. We are a nimble team that can execute quickly so you’ll be making important technical decisions, while also leveraging the collective knowledge and experience of existing Zemble engineers.
As a Backend Software Engineer you will:
Build robust systems that serve user-facing apps and internal tools
Write functional, scalable code (in RoR and Node)
Work closely with other backend, frontend, and DevOps engineers as well as the product and customer ops teams
Discuss the best architecture for a feature and dive deep into design patterns
Write clear and accessible documentation including tests for your code
What you’ll bring to the table:
4+ years of experience working in-house in backend development for a startup or scaleup (no development agencies)
A degree in Computer Science or similar (without a technical degree, you’ve been building scalable products and platforms for 6+ years in-house)
You have been involved in decision making, architecting, or delivering robust backend features at a startup or scaleup
RESTful API design and know-how
Strong experience in a top-level database system as well as event-driven architecture
You have a customer-centric mindset and care about user experience
You are proactive, have a strong sense of ownership, and are able to work autonomously
Experience with the whole software development life cycle including CI/CD, testing, security, and compliance
